Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ Rugby Join Canucks for Wins in Vancouver

Some might think that all sporting excitement in the Lower Mainland is happening at Rogers Arena, but they clearly haven’t seen Brentwood’s First 11 Soccer team or First XV Rugby team in action lately.
The senior soccer girls started strongly with a 5-0 win over Caledonia Thursday morning. Goals came from Mairi H, Mairead M, Kate P, Katie C and Shelby M. The afternoon game saw them earn a 2-0 victory over Hugh Boyd with tallies from Maddy A and Alexa M. With seven goals (from seven different players) and two Spenser M shutouts, Brentwood faces last year’s champions Burnsview on Friday morning in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, the senior boys defeated Rockridge by a single point (just like the Canucks over the Bruins the night before…is this coincidence or fate?) 24-23 on the last play of the game to earn a berth in the AA gold medal game against Collingwood on Saturday. As of today, three of our Rowing teams have just made it to semi-finals in St. Catharines as well.

We wish the girls, the boys and the Canucks all the best. We’ll be watching!
