Girls Rugby: Brentwood 41, Vanier 10

1 May 2009
Jim Burrows
On Thursday afternoon, the girls rugby team took on G P Vanier SS from Courtney, a strong AA team. As expected, it was a very physical encounter from the outset as their big strong athletes ran at us hard and often. Their rucking was effective but our tackling was up to the task and our ball movement created scoring opportunities for Ginny and Dani out wide. Ginny scored twice in the first half while Dani maintained her 3-tries-a-game pace. The back row was very active in both attack and defence, particularly Martina, who filled in at flanker for Sarah. Cara Smith played her first full game at hooker and struck superbly. In the centre Dylan, Geneva and Denise were creative on attack and resolute in defence allowing Vanier only one long run in the game. It was a well-earned win and just the preparation we need going into the post-season phase of play next week.
