Girls Rugby

As 2018 commences, the Girls Rugby team is pleased to welcome many new faces who are more than eager to learn the game. With the help of our veteran coaches, Mr Cowie and Mr Felix, and our fun-loving RFA, Mr Travis Larson, who is currently playing for Team Canada, we are seeing drastic improvement in skills and a positive mindset throughout the team, coupled with amazing effort from our new players. This has been particularly prevalent in the scrimmages we have participated in against our neighboring schools. The girls, old and new, played with determination (despite the torrential downpours) and learned quickly from their mistakes.

Playing rugby is a challenge to begin with, so when it is paired with the unpredictable weather that is present in the second term, we are faced with a whole new realm of challenges. Learning to play well in conditions that are not in our favour is one of many stepping stones a team needs to take in order to become successful, “Sometimes after a long day of school I am not in the mood to go outside in the cold rain and get tackled over and over again. But I have come to realise that no matter how much I dread practice I always feel 100% better once I've done it” said a muddied Jotei B. “Rugby is by far the most exciting and rewarding sport Brentwood has to offer. I have learned so much about myself since I started playing. I discovered my potential as an athlete as well as physical and mental strength that I never thought I had.”

With the 15s and 7s season coming up quickly, we will continue to work to push each other to the max in anticipation for this year’s upcoming challenges. I think I can speak for the whole team when I say we are excited to see our team grow and bond in the new year.
