Foote Loose
From the moment day students returned to the campus in September we were, of course, met with Covid-19 restrictions. Most notable of these was that the day students would not be allowed into the boarding houses for a considerable amount of time. This wasn’t ideal for our group of 125, but what came out of these restrictions was a new home in the spectacular Foote Athletic Centre.
Not only was this facility the main site for athletics, but it now became day student central. The building was well set up for the coronavirus pandemic with socially distant hang out spots scattered throughout. Despite this great setup, the students still felt somewhat uncomfortable not being able to access the houses because they are a huge part of student interaction.
The man in charge of the Foote, Mr Langer, has done and continues to do a great job managing the students by making sure all of the restrictions are being met. He says that “It is special that we can build our own culture in the Foote, and it also really puts into perspective just how valuable the boarding house experience is.”
Fellow day student Kai Y, Privett ‘22 says that “The school could not have picked a better place to house the day students because of the great facilities we get to use.” The gym is phenomenal and the S&C/Cardio rooms are fully equipped with everything necessary for a good workout.
The past few months have both positive and negative with restrictions being lifted and tightened depending on current conditions. As per Dr. Bonnie Henry’s announcement that wave 2 of the coronavirus pandemic has arrived, the Foote Centre will be getting a lot more use from practically everyone on campus. With the rules formally in place, everyone’s hope is to get life at Brentwood back to normal and to have Covid-19 become a thing of the past.
