This past Saturday the Brentwood Boy's First XV continued their winning ways defeating a very strong St. Michael's squad 31-8. In front of a packed crowd full of SMUS alumni, the boys displayed some early jitters conceding a try in the opening phase of the game; however a dazzling break from scrum-half Mike G ten minutes later allowed Brentwood to regain the lead, 7-5. Ian M tacked on another score to close the half after the forwards punched their way through the St. Michael's defense giving the boys a 12-8 lead at break.
The second half was a different story as the boys took control of the match thanks to hulking center Mike M bursting through the fatiguing defense with a beautiful try under the posts. Despite playing into the wind, fullback Daniel E kept the opposition pinned inside their own half with some precise kicking. The forwards dominated for the entirety of the game as Scott P manhandled his opposite number at every scrum.
Prop Davin K continued his scoring ways by notching another two tries after beautifully supporting the backs and then also capping off a perfect maul that was driven twenty meters to reach the SMUS try line. Fly half Adam M tagged on three conversions.
As the final whistle brought the game to a close, the boys were ecstatic with their performance. Our next game will be against Ladysmith on Thursday, May 10th for provincial seeding, then we face rivals Shawnigan Lake on Tuesday, May 15th at home.
