Fiddler On The Roof

13 January 2014
Edna Widenmaier
The Tony Award-winning musical drama Fiddler on the Roof comes to Brentwood’s Killy Theatre stage from February 25 to March 1. In the little village of Anatevka in 1905, Tevye, a poor milkman, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Family conflicts arise when his daughters want to defy tradition and marry for love. This musical was one of the first on Broadway to weave tragic elements - in this case the persecution of a people - into a story of romantic love. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler has touched audiences around the world with its humour, warmth, and honesty. The themes of tradition, family, love, understanding, and acceptance are universal and contemporary. All around the campus, students, staff and faculty are rehearsing and working to build a memorable event for our audiences. Tickets are available online at www.brentwood.bc.ca/booking or by calling our box office at 250-743-8756. As they say in show biz, “We are nursing and rehearsing our parts!” Mrs. Edna Widenmaier, Director of Arts
