Festival Season is Coming!

3 February 2019
Phil Newns, Head of Music
Every year at this time, our ensembles are hard at work preparing their repertoire to perform at various festivals in April and May. Last year, our ensembles excelled at these festivals, earning 3 Gold and 4 Silver awards, along with performances at the Highlights of the Victoria Festival, and 4 invitations to the Nationals, Musicfest Canada in Ottawa this year. Can we do it again? From my viewpoint, our ensembles are better than they have ever been, and I am confident that we can. All of our ensembles will start their festival debuts at the Victoria Festival for the Performing Arts in April. They include the Vocal, Strings, Wind and Guitar Ensembles, as well as Almost A Cappella, the Beginner, Advanced, and Composition Rock Bands. Some of these groups will also compete in the West Coast Jazz Festival in Nanaimo, and the Vancouver Island Concert Band Festival in Port Alberni. And yes, we even have our very own festival on the 17th of April called the West Coast Concert Choir Festival. Plans are also underway for three of our ensembles to perform at the Nationals in Ottawa in May. They are Almost A Cappella, the Jazz Band and the Advanced Rock Band. If you are able to catch any of these ensembles at these performances, they are always appreciative of an audience. You can also catch the final performance of these award-winning ensembles at our year-end concert on June the 6th and 7th in the Bunch theatre – Concert for a Summer’s Eve. Phil Newns, Head of Music
