February Midterm

On this long-awaited and well-deserved midterm break, Brentwood’s students and staff have been blessed with the opportunity to de-stress. Whether they are marking papers, catching up on work, or hitting the slopes, now is the ideal time to recuperate after being thrown back into classes, arts, and athletics following winter vacation. Everyone around the school has been bustling along this last stretch and considering that the break is finally here, I am almost unsure of what to do with myself!

Everyone seems to be on their own adventures, from the offered trip to Big White for skiing or snowboarding, to a dance trip to Disneyland! On the other hand, Ms Lawrence and Mr Doehler and eight Brentwood students are currently running a health fair in Cristo Rey, Belize, which is nothing short of amazing! Unfortunately, I was unable to get a quote from any of these students, as they have given up all technology and been living in the Central American moment!

We are all so lucky to have been presented with this array of opportunities, rather than be sent off to simply sit idle for a few days. Already, it has been a time of creative exploration and a chance to learn outside of the regular school environment. This break is what you make of it, and I know many students are using it to the best of their abilities!

So far, in Anaheim, our senior dancers have been having barrels of fun on the many exhilarating rides at Disneyland, while also putting in tons of extra work. Already having completed multiple workshops and a show, Grace P, Alex ‘21 tells me that as of right now, “It has been an incredibly exciting experience and a whole lot of fun for us all!” Alongside this, as if our students aren’t busy enough, three of our basketball teams - jr girls, jr boys and sr boys - have competed in qualifying tournaments this weekend! The senior boys now proceed to the Island Championship this weekend, while the junior girls have qualified for the provincials in late February in Langley.

Jette D, Allard ‘21 says, “The break is an excellent opportunity to do new things with friends! So far, on my trip to Big White, I have had so much fun on the slopes with my friends, old and new. It is really nice to see them enjoying themselves in a different environment!” Meanwhile, others have been catching up with friends from their hometowns as well as their families. “It’s been really nice to take time away from the Brentwood community for a bit and spend some time catching up with my friends at home,” says Eva K, Allard ‘21.

So, while I’ve definitely enjoyed chillaxing and putting in the work from home, I am already excited to get back into my routine in our gorgeous Brentwood campus - we’re had several sunny days this week - with my lovely friends again!
