The 50th Brentwood Regatta is officially upon us, and, most importantly to some, that means the return of the food booths from Mr Branchflower’s Entrepreneurship 12 class. Eight booths set up on Campbell Common, all offering unique selections of food to keep Brentwood and our guests well fed this weekend. Each booth generously offered us free samples of their signature dishes. Below are our official reviews of each booth and what we were able to try.

Bubble Express offers a wide range of sweet treats, including crépes, slushies, and their patented bubble tea. We had the chance to sample their brown sugar bubble tea, which retained all the features of a bubble tea you might find in downtown Victoria. With authentic tapioca balls on offer, Bubble Express is the real deal.

A necessity for an early-morning row is definitely a product from Islander Drinks, which is selling an assortment of coffees and smoothies. We tried out their black coffee and mixed berry smoothie, which both hit the spot and will certainly be popular amongst the early risers here at Regatta.

Blowing us away with their high-tech menu was Fatty Patty, a burger joint also offering french fries, poutine, and lemonade. While their TV menu was impressive and user-friendly, their burger was also very solid, with the right amounts of juiciness and flavour; the fatty patty will surely make for a popular item this weekend.

Draped in the green, white, and red of the Mexican flag, Banditos Burritos offers an assortment of Mexican delicacies, such as tacos, tortilla chips, and their main attraction: the burrito. Authenticity is key for this group, as their burrito, which is certainly not small, is packed to the brim with flavour.

Goodfellas Grilled Cheese brings grilled cheese and breakfast sandwiches to Campbell Common with glasses of iced tea to wash it all down. Their grilled cheese is a classic - the perfect blend of melted cheese and toasted white bread.

Proof that the popular ski hill treat is good anytime of year, Tasty Tails is serving highly customizable Beavertails. Customers can pick from bases such as Nutella, peanut butter, and apple pie and toppings like Reese’s Pieces, Oreo crumble, and banana. We tried their signature Going Bananas which was an artful combination of Nutella, bananas, and powdered sugar on top of freshly fried dough.

West Side Waffles takes a sweet twist on the classic breakfast treat with bubble waffles and a variety of toppings ranging from Nutella to butter sugar. We got to sample their deep fried ice cream which expertly combined warm cornflakes with delicious vanilla ice cream.

Alluding to Disney’s Princess and the Frog, Tiana’s Beignets brings the popular New Orleans street food to Mill Bay. They have four unique flavors of deep fried donut: powdered sugar, honey drizzle, cinnamon sugar, and, our personal favourite: Nutella and strawberries. The Nutella was nestled within the layers of dough and topped off with freshly diced strawberries for a delicious blend of chocolate and fruit.

There is no doubt that there is something here for everyone at this year’s Regatta, so make sure, if you can, to come down to Campbell Common and try some of it out for yourself.

Stay tuned for many more blogs from us as the weekend progresses.
