Farewell, For Now, From the Athletics Prefect

11 July 2020
Reece Fougner-Rukus, Assistant Head Prefect, Athletics, Allard ‘20
The following address was delivered at the School's final assembly of the 2019-2020 academic year in early June, 2020.
Hey Everyone,

Once again I will try and follow the articulate Ben and Amelia.

We all know this year wasn’t what we thought it would be so I’m not going to talk about that: we’ve heard it all before.

All I want to say to everyone is I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. It seems like it was last month that I was watching the new students try out soccer, volleyball, field hockey and rugby at Orientation. Thinking back to that I just want to say how amazing everyone has done and how far you all have come. A lot of you stepped out of your comfort zones which everyone should be so proud of. It's not easy, take it from me, the girl who did basically the exact same sports for five years.

To those students returning next year, I hope you continue to try new sports and enjoy everything the athletics programs offers you and, those who are graduating, I hope you take part in everything university has to offer you whether that be intramurals, going to the gym, or just playing frisbee with the new friends you will meet. Thanks to all the athletics staff who put in so much time trying to give us the best experience we could hope for.

A big thanks to Mr. Gage for running the program and shoutout to Ms. Ostopovich and Ms. Sheck for bringing us an awesome Active Living program the past couple of months. I know I found it extremely helpful to get outside and get active. It lowered my anxiety and broke up the long days. Thanks for putting up with listening to me every week and I wish you all the best.
