Ellis House Lifers' Farewell

21 August 2022
Caiden Owens, Ellis ‘22
Hi everyone my name is Caiden and I have been at Brentwood for five years and I am honoured to represent the Ellis boys at tonight's Lifer’s Dinner. When I first arrived at Brentwood, it was quite the transition, getting used to living with a roommate, being one of the two Grade 8 boarders and being stuck with my teacher every Saturday when my friends got to go home.

When I returned in Grade 9 I met the soon-to-be Ellis Lifers. It was awkward at first, but as time progressed we all became close friends who have built many memories together throughout our four years. There are eight of us in total and I would like to quickly address each of them - starting off with Josh.

Josh is a man of few words and even though I've known him for five years all I know is that he is a scooter enthusiast often spending time at the skate park practicing tricks and breaking bones.

Then we have Julian, the perfect example of what it means to be all-in at Brentwood - involved in BWell, Grad, musical and constantly volunteering when people need an extra hand.

Next Kevin, who, at times, has a bit of a temper, but deep down he is a teddy bear who loves Ellis House, rugby and waking up early to watch his favourite soccer team, Chelsea.

Then Gregor, a talented artist and rugby player who is always trying to better himself.

Next is Oliver, a smart, funny guy who enjoys spending time with friends and is a crucial member in running Ellis House.

Lastly, Niko and Trekker - they are kind, caring guys, who have been my two best friends at Brentwood over the last four years and I wanted to thank them for helping make my experience here great.

And now I would now like to address the Brentwood Lifers. A Strathcona trip, a pre-Covid Regatta and online schooling are just a few of the things all of us have experienced. We have gone through some tough times but have triumphed and are now only a month away from graduation. I would like to thank my Houseparents Mr Wismer and Mr Barrett as well as Mr Sullivan who have supported me through my time in Ellis. I am grateful to have had Mr Cowie to advise me throughout my academic career. His dedication and hard work to ensure my success is appreciated. I would also like to thank the Ellis boys who have made my time enjoyable as well as the rest of the 2022 Grad class. In particular, I would like to thank Mrs Patel who, since I arrived in Grade 8, has supported me every step of the way.

Finally, I would like to thank the Brentwood community as a whole who has supported us and provided us with a home away from home.

Thank you.
