What felt like a never-ending winter may have ended in early March at the Elk Lake Spring Regatta hosted by The University of Victoria. With cold in the forecast, the sun broke through which allowed the spectators to take a layer or two off. Brentwood entered 42 boats in the regatta and came first in 7 events out of the 15 we entered in. This was the first sprint race of the season and the first sprint race for many of our athletes. Jacob P, Whittall ‘18 and Logan P, Ellis ‘18 went home with two gold medals from the Jr A Mens 2- and the Jr A Mens 2x. Benett L, Privett ‘18 placed 4th in the Jr A Mens 1x A final. Rowing Canada made the Jr A Mens 2- and 1x a required event in order to move onto the next stage of trials for CanAMex or Worlds. Brentwood will be sending between 7 and 9 athletes to the next stage to trial.  The Jr A Men’s 8+ also placed 1st over the weekend after minimal practice together; they were ecstatic with their result which was also pleasing for the coaches on the shore. On the Senior Womans side of the program Allulah BC, Alex ‘19 placed 1st in the B final of the Jr A Women's 1x. The Jr A Women's 8+ was also successful with a 1st place win. For the Juniors, the Jr B Men’s 4+ got 2nd place in the A final. Both the Junior girls and boys placed 4th in their Jr B 4x+ event.  This weekend was full of memories being made, and lessons being learned. Next up for the rowers is the training camp over Spring Break in preparation for our Brentwood Regatta April 27-29.  Emma H, Allard’18
