In the past weeks, AP Physics 11 students have been hard at work constructing instructional videos on electromagnetism compiling the knowledge they have built up throughout the year. Mrs Olszewski tasked students with making an instructional video applying electromagnetism to real world scenarios and explaining the concepts through a demonstration.

Students were quick and eager to get started with exciting concepts to research, such as a railgun, magnetic levitation, and a hadron collider.  Jack P, Whittall ‘22, said “The creative freedom Mrs Olszewski gave us to have allowed our interests to inspire our project.” Experiments were underway - with safety being the top priority, of course. The classroom was covered in wires, coils, and the mighty power supply which all the students feared. Sparks were flying, epiphanies were made, and soon everyone had constructed videos to the best of their abilities.

To present the videos that had been strenuously created, Mrs Olszewski took us all to the lecture theatre. This allowed students from both classes to see what everyone had been working so hard on. The videos were shown one by one with direct feedback being given from the audience after each video. Ramona J, Alex ‘22, said, “The direct feedback allowed my group to see what we excelled in and what we could improve on in future projects.” Questions were then asked by the viewers to further highlight the understanding of electromagnetism by each group. Finally, a vote was held for the most memorable video with the winner receiving a gift card to McNeills.

The electromagnetism project created a fun and new way of learning the intricate world of physics. With their peers, students were able to discover the interconnectedness of electromagnetism with the real world.
