Double Gold for Rowers

22 February 2012

This past weekend, all of Brentwood's rowers headed up the road to Shawnigan Lake School to compete over two days at the Hungerford Cup and Head of Shawnigan Lake Regattas.?
?On Saturday, with the boats rigged and the rowers ready to race, after a lot of waiting around, the decision was made to cancel the regatta due to concerns about the weather and the predicted incoming strong winds. We de-rigged, reloaded the trailer and headed home, disappointed we were unable to compete, especially for some, as it could have been their first regatta. ?
Luckily, Sunday's weather was much better and we returned to Shawnigan ready (despite the 6am wake up) for the 6.5km Head of the Lake. The Senior Girls 4x won their event by over 30 seconds earning their first win of the season. The Senior Boys 8+ was over 45 seconds ahead of the next junior crew and only 43 seconds behind the UVic Varsity 8+. The junior boys also put in some strong performances in the men's eights event. We are all looking forward to racing again in 10 days at the Elk Lake Spring Regatta in Victoria.
