Double Gold at Seattle’s Head of the Lake

9 November 2010
For the past twenty years, Brentwood has sent crews to compete in the Head of the Lake Regatta hosted by the Lake Washington Rowing Club. This is the largest fall regatta west of the Mississippi. For many of our student-athletes, this is the first regatta of the school year; for most of the American clubs, it is their season finale.

Brentwood crews had great success. For the first time in the school’s history, we won gold. The Youth Men’s coxed four of Ryan C, Dan H, Andrew C, Cam Y and Jack K won in a time of 18:53, thirty-one seconds ahead of their competition. An end to the twenty year drought saw a second gold medal in the Youth Men’s quad. Ruben S, Martin B, Lance B, Nicholas R and Joel C won in a time of 18:05, forty-eight seconds ahead of silver.

In the Youth Women’s quad, Deirdre H, Claire V, Elizabeth A, Stacey K and Erica M placed third, while Sarah M, Adrienne N, Sadie C, Tamsyn C and Caroline C placed 10th. The club’s final entry was in the Youth Men’s JV 8+ where Channing B, Paiton B, Alex P, Tristan K, Ian S, Sean H, Ben F and Michael L placed third.

This is the last regatta of the fall for these athletes, but you can bet they’ll log hundreds of kilometers of training before the spring competitive season begins.
