The first International Dinner following midterm break was last Friday, celebrating Diwali. Hope senior, Tiyasha S took to the stage to educate us about Diwali in last week's assembly: it is a Hindu festival which lasts for six days, celebrating Light over Darkness and a successful harvest. Tiyasha explained that Diwali means ‘row of lighted lamps’ which is why it is often called the Festival of Lights. Over the course of the Festival, people wear new clothes, clean their homes and enjoy feasts.

The delicious menu organized to honour the celebration included butter chicken, chana dal, vegetable samosa, shahi paneer, and basmati rice, along with carrot halva cake, ice cream and masala chai for dessert.

“It was very tasty”, Duncan H, enthusiastically recalls. He is excited to express his gratitude to be able to “learn about new cultures through International Dinners like these”.

The food services staff does an amazing job recreating the dishes that feel like home to so many international students and providing a new experience to those who have not had the opportunity.

Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming International Dinners.
