Disaster Strikes: Brentwood’s Dock Destruction

17 April 2012

This calamity, the mauling of our rowing, sailing and kayaking docks, came at a rather precocious time considering that Brentwood’s 43rd Annual Rowing Regatta is just a fortnight away. However, the re-construction is complete!
The damage was a result of the cataclysmic storm that bombarded the Saanich Inlet during the March Break. The huge storm, with 100 km winds and a high tide, gave no quarter to the old Brentwood docks.
The new dock will be “way stronger than it used to be. I’m glad it’s back to normal,” commented boathouse manager, Mr. Warren Featherstone.
Waterfront activities have been slowed as repairs took place. Training has been hindered as we were limited to the South Dock as construction equipment, including a huge floating barge that drove in the pilings, filling the area. Senior Girls Rowing Coach Mr. Mark Wismer said the project was “short-term pain for a long-term gain.”
See you at the Regatta, April 27-29, 2012.
