Is armed conflict a justified means of achieving peace? That is a question asked by many around the world through history, and the question that we, the novice debaters of BCS and Shawnigan Lake School, were determined to solve at the dinner debate last Friday. At 5:00, we introduced ourselves to our guests from SLS, all of us eager to begin. We received our resolution, cobbled together some arguments, then found our names on the schedule and left for our debates. The competition was lively, with sturdy and developed points all around, even as many of us were debating for the first time. In the end, we all came away with new ideas and new questions, excited to do it again. It was a great time for all involved, capped off with pizza and ice cream in Crooks Hall. A big thank you to the real stars of the night, the volunteer student judges, timekeepers and especially the tireless debate coaches from both schools. They are all so passionate about debating, and we’re very grateful for all their time and wisdom. I am resolved, Caden K, Whittall ‘19
