Defending The North

22 February 2022

From February 18-19, Brentwood’s Senior Boys Basketball team competed in the North Island championships hosted by our friends up the road, Shawnigan Lake. The boys played one game each day which both produced wins and saw Brentwood capture the title for yet another year.

The build up to the North Islands consisted of quite a few “long and tiring practices” described by Philip A, Rogers ‘22, but these were what the team needed to get their play back to the best it possibly can be heading into this crucial part of  the hoops season here in British Columbia.

Game number one of the tourney was against Shawnigan. It was an extremely important game as a spot in both the finals of North Islands and a berth to Islands was on the line. The boys battled hard and came away with a convincing 75-38 win. Sajeev S, Whittall ‘22 made both of his shots and summed up the victory as “a great performance from every single player that stepped on the court for us.”

Game number two was against Gulf Islands in the final which produced a phenomenal final three quarters from Brentwood. It was arguably the best all-around team performance of the season as every player that stepped on the court contributed in one way or another. The final score read 88-32 in Brentwood’s favor earning the boys the number one seed this upcoming week.

Next up for the Senior Boys will be the Island Championships which will be held in the Foote Centre at Brentwood from February 24-26. With only two spots at provincials up for grabs, the team will need to make sure they bring their absolute best over the entire course of these three hugely significant days in the BC basketball calendar.
