December House Outings

18 December 2019

In the evening, after Brentwood’s last day of classes for the decade - and a thorough #1 cleaning - every individual house went out and relished in each other’s company one last time before the break. There were many toasts and much of the time was spent reminiscing about the year to date, including new relationships, individual accomplishments, and the recognition of all the wonderful people at Brentwood!

In the words of Alannah G, Allard ‘20, “The house outing was a wholesome way to bring the house together and to really bond with the people we live with. Once we got back from dinner, we started with opening our Secret Santa presents and guessing who it was. Finally, we finished off the night with skits from every grade, which is a super fun Allard tradition!” As a new student, I can say that this was such a wonderful time to be around everyone and to create really special memories before leaving for break.

There seemed to be a common theme between each house celebration, as Michael W, Privett ‘21 told me, “As the night began, the boys made toasts to the new and old relationships that had been created. As the night ended we gave our thanks to our houseparents and staff whilst handing out house ties and celebrating what we had achieved.” Brentwood has had a truly remarkable start to this school year, and I am so glad we got the chance to acknowledge everyone that has made this possible!

“We’ve had an incredible start to the year in Allard House and our annual dinner at the Malahat Chalet was a great way to celebrate together before sending everyone off! After a delicious holiday dinner, Alannah surprised the house with a lovely musical performance that had many singing along, which made the speeches of appreciation for the duty/house staff even better. We’ve got a really special group of girls in Allard this year and I’m so impressed with the family we’ve created. The cherry on top was gathering in the common room after dinner for the Secret Santa gift exchange/reveal with everyone in their new Allard sweatpants. Though we’re all ready for break, the December festivities and traditions of our house never fail to remind us all how much we’ll miss each other. And a huge thanks to Mrs Amiel for ending her first term of being the Allard Houseparent on such a high note! On behalf of everyone, we are all so grateful to have her!” observed Georgia G, Allard ‘20.

The whole last day felt incredibly bittersweet, with people itching to get out of school while at the same time not wanting to leave everything behind. We have such an incredible community at our school and none of the rosy memories from the beginning of this year would be possible without the contributions of our staff and students. I wish everyone the happiest of holidays on this well-deserved break!
