Debate at Glenlyon

In late January, twenty-six members of the Brentwood Debate team traveled to Glenlyon Norfolk School to participate in the Vancouver Island Regional Debate Tournament. Over the course of the day, they participated in four debates, two of which were pre-prepared and two that were on impromptu topics. Teams had no idea what to expect in the impromptu rounds, and were denied access to the internet.  What I found most compelling throughout the day was how those who were stuck on the wrong end of the debate still made their arguments so compelling that they could reason through the most unreasonable arguments. At the end of the day, participants were tired and ready for the awards. Advancing to the provincial final we have, in the novice category, Jocelyn L & Emily R, Grade 8 ‘22; in the Junior category, Amelia H, Allard ‘20 & Rohin A Privett ‘21; and in the Senior category Jaylynn B, Allard ‘19, Sunil C, Rogers ‘19, Morgan W, Allard ‘18 & John E, Rogers ‘18.
