Congratulations to all Brentwood students and staff for having successfully made it through half of first term - and one sixth of the entire year - safely. Now at the two month mark, the Brentwood community has completed two periods of on-campus isolation known as Camp Brentwood, and, as of October 21st, we have been able to welcome some well-deserved updates to campus protocols.

Now that the new normal has been wholly integrated into life at Brentwood - thanks to the cooperation of the entire community - we have successfully maintained a healthy and happy campus throughout these past two months. In response to this, Grade 9-11 day students were delighted to hear that there would be some positive changes to their campus access. All day students now have access to the common room areas of their respective houses providing they mask up at all times.

Though this still does not compare to the unlimited access to houses that day students have had in previous years, this relaxation of protocol makes a huge difference for day student inclusion in the house dynamic. As Gillian D, Hope ‘24, new to the boarding house this year, elegantly puts it “When you’re a day student, you’re already one step removed, but being allowed into the boarding houses brings us right back into the community.”

Boarders, day students and house faculty alike hugely appreciate being able to communicate and connect with our day students from the comfort and ease of the boarding house. However, the day students have been so amazing at adapting to their new situation. Jocelyn L, Mackenzie ‘22 states that she was able to make “new bonds with a lot of day students and we created a similar family environment in the Foote Centre” as well.

The Brentwood family is hugely grateful to all the Grade 9-11 day students for their patience, adaptation and cooperation. Their presence in common rooms and kitchens livens up the house dynamic and it’s great to see the entire house together - but still 6 feet apart - again.
