Dancing For The Intoxication

The gift of dance is amazing. Performing on stage is like shaking up a soda can before you open it, then letting it explode in every direction. The adrenalin seems to overcome you and erupt when stepping in front of the bright lights the stage has to offer. The feeling is indescribable.  Last week, five Brentwood dancers, including me, traveled to Nanaimo to compete in The Core Dance Competition. Every year a select group of girls is chosen by the Dance Captain via audition to perform in the competition. This year the Brentwood Dance Program was lucky enough to have Sally S, Alexandra ’15 as our Captain, and she choreographed a challenging yet gorgeous Jazz piece to Britney Spears’ “Toxic”.  I guess you could say…“We came, we saw, we conquered”. Sally competed two of her solos, “Hometown Glory” placing first with a Platinum Award, and “Feeling Good” placing third with a Gold Award. After the madness of her solos, Sally, Emma C, Alexandra ’16, Allie W, Hope ’16, Lauren Y, Mackenzie ’16 and I performed “Toxic” placing first with a Gold Award.  It was a successful and amazing day.  There is no better feeling than stepping on stage, releasing your cares and just dancing your heart out, and there is no other group of girls I would’ve rather done it with.  Tamara, Allard ‘17; Photo by Samantha Madge
