Every year, Brentwood dancers of all different levels - beginner, intermediate, and advanced - wait excitedly in the wings to showcase their hard work by putting on the Evening of Dance show. This year’s down-to-earth, dynamic show was titled Bloom. “Bloom was such a special show”, said dancer Jenny L, Alexandra ‘23. “It was amazing to see all the dancers come together and move to such a wide variety of music and choreography”.

The show included a multitude of different styles of dance, such as ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop. In addition to the group dances for each class, there were also solos, duets, and trios in the show that were choreographed by guest choreographers. As a result, the audience got to see just how versatile dance can be as both an art and a sport.

Dance Captain and Assistant Head Prefect Heather L, Mackenzie ‘23, stated, “With a record number of dancers, it was heartwarming to see everyone come together as a team to put on such memorable performances. Everyone worked hard and supported each other throughout the show. The students displayed professionalism and passion”.

In comparison to the rehearsal schedule for Musical, preparation for the dance show was not as intensive, as extra rehearsals outside of classes only started in the last couple of weeks leading up to the show. However, the dance show was nothing short of tiring, as many dancers had numbers back-to-back and spent two hours quick-changing into one costume after another and running straight back onstage.

Amy Staples, who runs the dance program, stated, “I’m super proud of all of my classes for coming in and doing extra rehearsals, giving it their all, and still focusing on all the other aspects of the school, like academics and sports”.
