After a two-year Covid hiatus, Brentwood rowing crews have returned to the Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association Championships in St Catharines this weekend. A team of 45 athletes and six coaches  have been in Southern Ontario since Tuesday evening.

Given that only four of our rowers have attended the national championships before (back in June 2019), it was hard to make predictions about how the team would do. However after a full spring season of regattas at Elk Lake, Maple Bay, Shawnigan Lake, and our own 50th Anniversary Brentwood Regatta, our crews had some races under their belts.

That experience, and the intense efforts they have made through the winter season, a March Break training camp at Rowing Canada's Quamichan Lake site, and a full slate of early morning practices, it appears our crews are firing on all cylinders this week.

Tomorrow's finals will let us know for sure.

Fifteen Brentwood crews have qualified for the Regatta’s finals including the Junior Girls 8+, 4+, and 4x+; the Junior Boys 8, lightweight 8+, lightweight 4+, heavy 4+, and two 66kg 4x+s; the Senior Girls 8+, Novice 8+, and 4x; and the Senior Boys 4+, Lightweight 2x and heavy 1x.

We wish them all calm water and strong races.
