On Monday, October 23, approximately 40 of Brentwood’s most skilled photographers participated in the annual Interhouse Photography competition, looking to score the most points for their respective houses.

Groups of five photographers from each house set out to capture the best of Brentwood. From each house, a photographer was sent to one of five different locations: the Foote Center, the Centre for Arts & Humanities, Crooks Hall, the docks, and the tennis courts.

The competition was laid out slightly differently this year, what with Brentwood’s efforts to continue social distancing between cohorts and to keep up with COVID-19 mitigation strategies. Emma T, Allard ‘21 told me, “Even though Interhouse Photography was set up a little bit different than last year, I really enjoyed myself! I like the idea of keeping track of who goes where to take photos, as I’m sure it really helps Brentwood with its mitigation strategies. Despite a tiny bit of bickering between our team about who would take photos where, I think we ended up doing a great job.”

Holly B, Allard ‘21 said of the event “I was very excited to be able to spend my first art block doing something I love. At first, I was disappointed about being sent to take photos in the Foote, as I thought it would be difficult to play into the theme of contrast. I was absolutely right, but I did end up having a lot of fun!” I think many people who participated felt the same way, but the greater the challenge, the better the reward!

For a time, students had the opportunity to view each house’s hard work while it was displayed in Crooks Hall. The judges must have been torn every which way considering how beautifully everyone’s photographs turned out and seeing as it took nearly a month to announce the results!

Speaking of, the results are as follows: First: Mack/Ellis; Second: Hope/Privett; Third : Alex/Whittall & Fourth: Allard/Rogers.

A huge congratulations to the winners of the 2020 Interhouse Photography competition and great work to everyone who was involved! This would not have been possible without the help of Ms Marci Mclean and Brentwood’s Assistant Head Prefect for the Arts, Sloane J!
