Congratulations to Tony Healy, CSCS!

22 January 2010
Last week we learned that Tony Healy, Head of Rugby, and responsible for the strength and conditioning program for rugby program has recently received his accreditation from the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). This accreditation is internationally recognized and respected, typically held by professionals working in the fitness industry as well as NCAA Strength and Conditioning coaches who work with elite athletes. In order to qualify for this accreditation, the candidate must have a university degree, complete an intensive correspondence course, and pass a written 4 hr exam. This is the sixth year that Mr Healy has been running this program and during his own athletic career he was under the direction of professional trainers himself. He completed this accreditation because he wished to deepen his knowledge of the theoretical aspects of this type of coaching. He hopes the strength and conditioning program at Brentwood will increase the students' fitness levels (including speed, strength, power, and agility), reduce the rate of sport-related injury, and establish a solid foundation for our young athletes to pursue elite levels of competition.
