The Brentwood College School Concert Choir wowed and was wowed in their shared concert AWAKEN SPRING in Victoria. This massed-choir blowout plans to become an annual event.

The Concert Choir joined vocal forces with 6 Victoria-based choirs to perform a predominantly youth based concert. This exciting event involved more than 150 singers of all ages, but predominantly young people.

"The idea behind this concert was to bring different young singers together to share the experience of preparing and performing choral music," says Brian Wismath, Vox Humana’s director. This was specifically an educational-outreach initiative seeking to cultivate the next generation of choral-music performers and supporters.

Our singers performed with some of Victoria’s best choral ensembles: the University of Victoria Chamber Singers and the Victoria Conservatory of Music Chorale (directed by Brian Wismath), Pacific Christian School (directed by Matthew Howe) and Brentwood Choir director Elizabeth MacIsaac’s Ensemble Laude. The choirs sang both separately and together, mostly a cappella, sometimes with piano accompaniment.

The programme was diverse and tremendously appealing to all ages. The audience sprang to their feet after the final number, the spiritual “Until I Found the Lord” directed by Ms. MacIsaac. Many of the Brentwood choristers reported that it was a huge thrill to sing with so many voices together. Ms. MacIsaac added that to be at the helm of that final song was an unforgettable experience and that the musical interaction of the young singers with the more seasoned adults was inspirational to all.
