Christmas on Campus

Christmas trees stand at every corner, lights sparkle all over campus, snow is in the forecast and Michael Bublé plays in the Crooks Dining Hall: Christmas is here. With students not leaving campus until December 16th, the school has a big chunk of the festive season to fill.

For the upcoming days before Winter Break, the Student Activity Council has lots of fun and festive activities planned for the students. This past Sunday, there was a student Christmas party held in the Foote Center multi-purpose rooms with gingerbread house decorating, Christmas karaoke, a festive photo op and even a big dodgeball tournament just for fun.

Earlier the same day, the SAC also hosted the annual Children’s Christmas Party for all of the Brentwood staff members’ families. It was organized by the Student Activity Council Coordinator, Ms Ramsay, along with the rest of the SAC. Even Santa Claus was in attendance to keep the holiday season magical, and to hear what all of the campus’ little ones would like for Christmas.

Captain of the SAC, Anna D, Allard ‘22 remarked that “Ms Ramsay, the grounds crew, and so many wonderful parents at the school have done a lot of work to get the campus all set up for this holiday season, and I’m looking forward to all of the awesome events that the SAC has in store.” It is great to see the people on campus come together for things like this; it really demonstrates the great sense of community here at Brentwood.

Even in the boarding houses, the Christmas spirit is evident all around. It was a cold Monday night a week ago when Thomas M, Privett ‘23 asked Mr Neufeld, the Privett Houseparent, if there was a Christmas tree that he could put up in front of the house. By the time that bedtime came around, the Privett boys had turned their common room into a crazy, cozy Christmas cave, and several other houses have followed suit since.

Mark L, Privett ‘22 said “Being away from home during the holiday season can be tough for sure. There’s a lot of festive traditions that my family has back home which I’m not able to do while here at Brentwood. Little things like decorating the common room and playing Christmas music make December away from home feel a lot more familiar.” Creating the home-away-from-home feeling is huge for a school like Brentwood, and that is exactly what the Christmas spirit is all about.
