Capturing Brentwood Through a Lens and Paper

Arts, athletics, academics - Brentwood has it all and photojournalism brings it all together. With articles on recent sports games, classroom projects, events around the school, and the numerous art programs like this one “It allows everyone to stay connected” observed Sajeev S, Whittall ‘22.

These blogs are designed for everyone from friends and family back home to understand what’s going on in the busy lives of the boarders, day students and staff, to get a new perspective on the activities around the campus.

Taught by Mr Ganley, this arts course allows students to hone two skills at once: writing and photography. Students are tasked with one article every two weeks. During this time, students complete their assignments independently. Once we decide on a topic for our blog, they then take multiple photographs to submit alongside their article.

Following the event of the article, students sit down and take their time to write out a thoughtful blog. These usually take considerable time. While completing their article, students must remember Mr Ganley’s “demanding, but reasonable rubric” Owen S, Whitall ‘22, to ensure they get a good grade on their project.

The end product then gets inspected by Mr Ganley and once he recognizes it’s up to standard it’s then posted on the Brentwood website under News. On the News site as well as social media, a wide array of articles from current and previous students can be found to get a better understanding of what Brentwood is all about.

Happy reading!
