Campus Kids’ Christmas

The Student Activities Council (SAC) is always putting on events for the Brentwood community to come together and have fun. Some of the youngest members of the school community can be found at Sunday brunch, running down boarding house halls, or playing in the field – these are the children of staff members, a.k.a “campus kids”. These children, along with the children of Brentwood staff who live off campus, recently enjoyed a fun-filled Sunday afternoon of festive cheer.

Every year, the Foote Centre gets busy with laughter and games for the afternoon when the SAC holds the Children’s Christmas Party for the little ones Brentwood wouldn’t be the same without.

The kids arrived to the event in their favorite festive clothes, smiling from ear to ear and excited to have fun with their friends. A multipurpose room was set up with activities like decorating gingerbread men or crafting homemade ornaments, and there were plenty of snacks, juice boxes, and pizza.

When Alexandra Houseparent Ms Jenna Warner asked her children what they thought of the party, she was met with enthusiastic replies. “Finley said it was fun and the best part was making snowflake-shaped ornaments. Sullivan says the best part was decorating the cookies and eating them”, she said.

The event was full of cheer – local firefighters were there, and SAC volunteers running the activities dressed up as elves. There were carols, and some kids even joined in to sing Frozen songs.

Later on, everyone went outside to wait for the firetruck to pass through. When Santa rode by in the truck, the partygoers went wild. All the kids lined up inside and got to sit on Santa’s lap, tell him what they wanted for Christmas, and take photos with him.

Things started to wind down as every child, tired out from all the festivities, picked up a goodie bag and filtered out with their parents. Volunteer Suhana V, Alexandra ‘24, said, “The kids were really engaged in the activities, and I’m so glad I was able to volunteer and be part of the fun!”.

Aside from all the merrymaking, the Christmas party taught the attendees an important skill – the ability to connect with others in the community, such as the firefighters, and celebrate them for all that they do. These kids are the future of Brentwood’s culture, and they will certainly make it a more positive place that is connected to the broader Mill Bay community.
