As our Brentwood students returned to campus, a new addition to the Orientation and back to school process was introduced. Camp Brentwood.

Our boarding students have been quarantined on campus in their house cohorts with no access to their beloved outside world, the aptly named “Uptown”. Without early morning coffee runs or sushi dinners, it comes as no surprise that people were thrilled to get back to their favourite hang out spots off campus yesterday afternoon.

Emily N, Allard, 22 says, “I’m excited for Camp Brentwood to be over because while I enjoyed being surrounded by my peers and teachers for the past two weeks, I’ve realized how much our community depends on being able to go Uptown as it is more of a social crutch rather than a necessity.”

For the day students, life has been pretty different up until now. Since being unable to leave campus, some have felt trapped inside campus. I have been told by multiple day students that, although they enjoy being back on campus with all of their friends, it’s hard to not have the same freedom that they once had.

Boarder Grace B, Hope ‘21 told me, “I am really looking forward to being able to visit Uptown because after being on campus for an extended length of time, you really need a break.”
It is a similar case for everyone, but while our Uptown freedom may be coming back, we must remember to be a responsible student body and practice mitigation strategies, both on and off campus!

Enjoy your fast food and sushi Brentwood!
