CAIS Accredition

21 October 2017
Dave McCarthy, Director of Learning
As you may know, our school is a member of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) organization, and last year we underwent accreditation for the first time. The process involved an extensive self-evaluation of all areas of the school and included input from staff, students, and parents. The documentation from this internal review was passed along to a Committee who visited us in late February for an intensive 3 day look at all aspects of Brentwood College from programs and facilities to administration and management. This team included several experienced Heads of School from across Canada as well as counterparts in areas such as academics, IT, and human resources. The visiting Committee was charged with producing a report that covers all of the 12 standards that encompass the gamut of school life from the way we deliver classes, arts, and sports, to how we care for students’ health and well-being. In each area they provide commentary that includes commendations, suggestions, and recommendations. The intention behind the whole process is to help us improve as a school and strive for excellence in all departments. We are delighted to report that Brentwood met all of the 12 standards and therefore remains in good standing in terms of accreditation and membership of CAIS. For a school to do this on its first accreditation cycle is rare. As we also hoped, there is much in the report that will guide us towards becoming better in a number of areas and, over the coming few years, we will be incorporating many of the recommendations into our planning and goal-setting for school improvement.
