After an action-packed first term, and a much-needed winter break, students return in the new year to another exciting term at Brentwood.  Soon after everyone is back, the interhouse competitions will resume with floor hockey on the first Saturday. The Junior Girls and Boys Basketball teams both have their ISA tournaments the following weekend, leading into the ISA tournament for the squash teams. Near the end of the month, the whole school - minus the musical theatre cast - will head up to Mt. Washington for Winterlude to take part in tubing, nordic skiing, alpine skiing, snowshoeing, avalanche training, and snowboarding. The Senior Boys Basketball team kicks off February with their annual Countdown to Playoffs tournament which will be the first basketball tournament hosted in the new Foote Athletic Centre. The following Saturday is the much loved Java Hut where many students will showcase their musical, comedic, and performing talents. To close out the first half of term 2, the Junior Basketball teams along with the Senior Girls will compete at the Island Championships, as the Senior boys take on all of the South Island teams in search of a berth at the Island Championships. Late January and early February also feature Spirit Week with its special meals, dress up days and activities. The day after returning from mid-term break, the Senior Hockey team hosts the annual Ross Cup at Kerry Park arena just up the road. Soons after that the tireless musical cast will put on their production of West Side Story from February 27th to March 2nd.  March brings around another much-needed break filled with relaxation for most students, and a rowing camp and regatta in California for the boathouse members adventurous enough to travel south for a week.  For students coming back from a three-week vacation to a cold campus in Mill Bay, BC, a second term of school might seem like a bit of a drag. Students need not fear, for we have a many entertaining, interactive, and even jaw-dropping events coming your way in 2019! Jack N-G, Ellis ‘21
