Bring Your Plant To School Day

26 January 2023
Mr Jim Ganley, Privett '34
Today, in support of Spirit Week, students from the the Brentwood Environmental Action Team (BEAT) and Environmental Advocacy sponsored “Bring Your Plant to Work Day”.

In honour of this occasion, BEAT and EA Teacher Co-Sponsor, Mr Ganley, shared this poem at Assembly.

"Feel the BEAT: The Glee of Trees"

We love all plants, for they are good
Grass and bulbs, those made of wood
Shrubs and flowers for the bees
But best of all the plants … are trees.

We used to have so many more
They were divine in days of yore
Their impacts reach the coral reef
Stop chopping trees to grow more beef.

Carbon emissions we must freeze,
We also must protect the trees.
Endangered for’sts need our assistance
Buy less consumer stuff, for instance.

Trees eat the carbon, give us O2
It’s Oxygen powers me and you
Evergreen, deciduous
Carbon sequest’ring photosynthesis.

Their roots run deep, halt soil erosion
Leafy help, drought mediation
We lounge beneath on sunny days
They shelter us from UV rays.

They give us fruit, they clean the air
Think apple, orange, peach & pear
Figs, cherries, lime & coconut
Nectarines & apricot.

The Boreal, the Amazon,
The Truffula, the list goes on
We’re heating up several degrees
The Lorax says …
To Save Ourselves, let's save the trees.
