Brentwood’s Snow Day

In light of the snowfall that coated Vancouver Island over the past 48 hours, students received one very exciting email Sunday night notifying them that their weekend would be extended. Despite the average Brentwood student’s love for learning, the cancellation of Monday’s classes left the whole school in a frenzy. Snow continued to pour down Sunday night prepping the Brentwood campus for the ultimate snow day. Students took advantage of the school’s small hills, turning them into their own mini slopes for skiing, boarding, and sledding. With limited sleds to go around, students made do by bringing oven trays to slide down the hill. Many got even more creative, deciding to build jumps to launch themselves off into the fresh powder whether they were on a tray or a set of skis. Sebastian M, Ellis ‘19 stated that “The trays worked just as good as any other sled”. The day continued with a school-wide snowball fight on the main field where buckets were eventually brought out, resulting in a much larger-scale snowball fight than intended.  Of course, the fun had to be balanced out with a little bit of study time given the whole school day was cancelled. Students headed indoors to their dorms to settle down for a 2 hour prep from 2-4 pm where they were able to catch up on all the work they did not complete on Sunday, or get ahead for their last week of school before departing on midterm break this Friday.  Whether the day was spent indoors watching movies and drinking hot chocolate, or skiing down the hills next to the old gym, this year’s snow day was greatly appreciated by all. Kerry W, Hope ‘19 says that snow day has been her “favourite day of the year”. As the snow continues to fall outside, we can only pray for another.  Nadia K, Hope’19
