Brentwood's Pops Orchestra band was among the contenders at Port Alberni Secondary as a part of the Vancouver Island Band Festival. There were 40 bands playing  for a prestigious duo of judges: Brian Stovell (UBC's Head of Music Department) and Lou Ranger, (retired professor of music from Malaspina). Both adjudicators were so impressed by the Brentwood Pops Orchestra that we received an invitation for MusicFest Canada held at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. This week-long event  will bring together more than 10,000 of Canada's finest young musicians who will perform for recognition as the country's foremost musical ensembles. The honour of being invited to Ottawa to perform at Music Fest is tremendously exciting!
Also of notable mention is Michael Oh, our flute player in the orchestra, who performed in the Gala Concert for the Cowichan Music Festival. It was announced  that not only did he qualify in the senior division for the provincial, but he also won a $1,500 scholarship for lessons. Congratulations to Michael Oh and to all the students who participated!
