Brentwood’s Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

6 November 2013
David McCarthy
As we roll into the second half of the Fall term, the season of Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences is upon us; this week the second of three sessions is scheduled for Saturday morning, November 9th. Despite the fact that many parents live some distance from the school, each session attracts over a hundred families and such is the demand that the school is contemplating putting a fourth session together in the second term. This would allow us to space interviews more generously and permit some parents to come for a follow-up visit. For parents unable to make these sessions, we try and accommodate them when they are visiting the school. We are also looking into the feasibility of having video conferences to allow overseas parents the ability to chat with teachers and put a face to the name on the report card. Overseeing the Parent-Teacher-Student process is Assistant Head of School, Mr. John Garvey. He welcomes input from parents on any improvements to the current system that they might suggest at garveyj@brentwood.bc.ca Mrs. Debbie Sage debbie.sage@brentwood.bc.ca is the person to contact to arrange a schedule; she does an amazing job of coordinating teachers and parents. Although the interviews are short, we teachers value the process almost as much as parents. It is an invaluable opportunity to give positive feedback to students and help them set new goals and strategies for improvement. Mr. David McCarthy, Director of Academics
