Brentwood’s First Bring Your Parents-To-Class Day

Every October, our school traditionally sets aside a day for parent-teacher-student interviews. However, this year, a new method of informing parents about in-class life took place. On Friday, October 7th, parents were invited into the classroom, either in-person or virtually, along with their children, to observe school activity firsthand. Whether it was in-person or on a Facetime call halfway across the world, the extended Brentwood family was offered a snapshot of what really goes on during the academic day.

Instead of the traditional three classes a day, all six classes were fit into the school day as 25 minute mini-periods. Of course, our teaching staff pulled out all the stops to show the true extent of the classes offered at Brentwood. After they were introduced to the courses’ core curricula, parents were given the opportunity to participate in vocab games, Kahoots, special labs and were even assigned homework in a certain Mr Skardal’s English class.

The event was a hit among the school’s extended family. “I think it’s a great idea,” said Mrs and Ms Kapuscinski, parents of Lochlan K, Rogers ‘23, “definitely easier than having to come up with questions for the parent teacher interviews!” It is important to note that Mr and Ms Kapuscinski were not subject to Mr Skardal’s dreaded English homework - which may have affected their opinion on how easy the day truly was.

Despite some minor embarrassment suffered from the students having their parents follow them around at school, the event was positive for students as well: “I really enjoyed showing my parents around campus” said Jay S, Rogers ‘23, who Facetimed his parents in from Prince George. “Since they live so far, I never really got to show them what my classes looked like until now.”

A huge thank you goes out to the staff and students for being amazing hosts to the Brentwood parents. Another huge thank you goes out to the parents for taking the time to come to campus and for not embarrassing their children too much throughout the day.
