Brentwood’s Broadcast Block

For as long as I can remember, arts here at Brentwood have been crazy for me when it comes to finding what I like. It wasn’t until halfway through my Grade 10 year where I found a program that really caught my eye. That program was Brentwood Broadcast.

At first I was a little nervous about being accepted into this course mainly because of the fact that I was the youngest student in the class and I was scared of what my peers would think of the videos I produced. Luckily, it didn’t take long for me to find my stride as the quality of the videos I was producing - with help from those around me - were among the best in the class.

Fast forward to now and I am in my third year of broadcasting as Captain of Livestream and I will be pursuing sports broadcasting at The College of Sports Media in Toronto upon graduation in June.

Mr Minckler especially has really helped me over the past couple of years with both my filming and editing skills. He says that “The goal of Brentwood Broadcast is to introduce students to both the recorded and live environments of video production.”

New to the block this year is our instructor, Ms Backlund. She brings fantastic energy and interesting ideas to every class making for an enjoyable environment for everyone to be a part of. She says that “The Broadcast has doubled in numbers this year - and ambition. Having already livestreamed some major Brentwood events [like volleyball and TEDx] and flexed our editing and cinematography skills, we are moving our sights onto new horizons. I have been so impressed with the work the Broadcasters have submitted so far. There is no-telling what this crew will achieve.”

I, along with fellow Broadcast Captains Philip A, Rogers ‘22 and Nathan O, Privett ‘22 are hoping that the crew can continue working like a well oiled machine throughout the rest of the year.
