Brentwood Tennis: The Winter Months

9 February 2011
Tennis is a sport that one typically thinks of as a summer activity, white clothed athletes soaking up the vitamin D. Here in Mill Bay, in the winter months, the tennis team travels to the tennis bubble at Arbutus Ridge for regular practice. The second term is focused on training, doing drills and playing friendly, yet competitive, matches of doubles to gain valuable experience. Occasionally, like this past week, the sun provides enough warmth to play outside, and those days are thoroughly enjoyed by the students.

After midterm, the tennis team will be preparing to play their first tournament at the end of February. The competitive season gets into full swing in the third term.

Grade 10 student Andjela S (photo above) has been playing competitive tennis for five years. She has been training diligently with the team preparing to compete in the Jalisco Junior Cup hosted by the International Tennis Federation in Mexcio over the midterm break. Andjela will be competing in both singles and doubles, against 32 other high level junior players under the age of 18. We wish Andjela the best of luck!
