Brentwood Tennis Polishes Provincial Silver Medals

31 May 2013
For the 4th consecutive year, the Brentwood tennis team was awarded the silver medal at the AA BC High School Tennis Championships. The Brentwood team moved easily through pool play defeating RC Palmer from Richmond by a score of 8-3, and Sa-Hali of Kamloops, 7-4.  This set up a rematch of the Island AA Tennis Final against Lambrick Park but this time our team made quick work of short-staffed Lambrick to advance to the semi-finals. “The team had enjoyed relatively straightforward wins up until this point, but everyone needed to play high quality tennis in the semi-finals against an inspired Okanagan Mission team from Kelowna” said coach, Mrs. Marci McLean.
After the first set of matches, the score was tied 3-3 but then the boys’ and girls’ doubles teams produced their best tennis to secure the win, 7-4.  This set up a rematch of the 2010, 2011 & 2012 finals with perennial rivals Collingwood of North Vancouver.
Rain interrupted the outdoor play and the tournament was forced to move indoors: the Brentwood players were focused and ready to play indoors or out.  Every set was hotly contested with the A Boys Doubles winning 2 sets, the B girls winning 2 sets, and the A girls doubles winning 1 set. Unfortunately, other close sets were lost and the team was defeated 6-5 and again settled for the silver medal. “ A core group of seniors who have been with the program a number of years will be graduating, but we have a good  group of Grade 10s and 11s, and we expect to be back competing for the top prize again next year” reflected Mrs. McLean on another terrific season of tennis.
