The first day of the 50th Brentwood Regatta was a successful one. Months of planning from regatta Chair Spencer Manton and her team allowed for a smooth transition into the school’s first Regatta in three years. From the live music to the start docks, nearly everything went smoothly except for the weather, which no amount of planning can control. However, after the wind died down and water was bailed out of the shells, we were off to the races (literally).

This momentous event would not be possible if it wasn’t for all of the work being done by Brentonians behind the scenes. Hosting 700 rowers and their sopport teams is no easy feat, and Brentwood staff and students alike have taken on a variety of volunteer roles ranging from greeters at the Foote Centre to house security, to bow markers. People are volunteering hours of their time to help out their school and community.

While being a waitress at the Gala Dinner may be more glamorous than a 6 am shift at the boathouse, every student has selflessly accepted their roles and are pursuing them with enthusiasm: “I actually don’t mind being on waste sorting,” says Alex G, Rogers ‘24. “I get to volunteer with my friends and help the environment at the same time.”

The staff who are giving up their weekend to volunteer at the Regatta all deserve immense credit. Some staff are running the merch store, others managing student volunteers, and staff like Ms Langer are responsible for giving awards to the victorious rowers. “It is such an honour to be a part of the awards and medal team” says Ms Langer. “We are right in the middle of action and get to witness the triumphant teams’ excitement as they get off the water to collect their awards.”

No matter the job, the Brentwood community are pursuing their responsibilities with grit and joy, and thanks to their contributions, this event is made possible. A huge thank you to everyone volunteering this weekend and we hope you continue to enjoy the Regatta!
