On Tuesday March 3rd, the Brentwood Girl’s 7s team rode the big yellow school bus down to the Westhills Rugby Canada Stadium where they played in the first-annual Belmont 7s rugby tournament. The Brentwood team consisted 11 players ranging from brand new players such as Constanze U, Cate B, Delaney M, Allie W & Flavie BJ and veterans like Ciel AB, Brooklyn N, Avi S, Hannah C, Shannyn OC, Denise R & Anita AM. The tournament began against Shawnigan Lake’s 1st team. We received the kick-off with the sun at our backs; the ball landed right in the arms of Delaney who confidently ran to contact. Avi quickly got the ball wide to Denise on the wing who used her unparalleled speed to step the Shawnigan team and score the first try. We played the whole game our hardest, with the mentality of 0-0, and finished with a hefty win over Shawnigan which had recently returned from the Las Vegas 7s. Immediately after the first game, we played Shawnigan again where Coco showed her strong and powerful speed while Cate B and Anita made try-stopping tackles, and Flavie stole numerous defensive balls. Brentwood was again victorious and came 1st in the tournament. The time we spend together outside of rugby has had a massive impact on how we play as a unit and as one team on the field. The Brentwood College Girl’s 7s season is off to a phenomenal start and we cannot wait for the official 7s and 15s seasons to begin! Ciel AB, Mackenzie ‘15
