Brentwood Rugby 2016-2017

22 June 2017

After nine months of running, chasing, tackling, rucking, mauling, sweating, passing, and kicking, the 2016-2017 Brentwood rugby season has come to an end.  It was an excellent year with over a 100 boys and girls, Grades 8-12, representing the school on the pitch. With the Junior Boys and the Girls both qualifying for provincials and the Senior Boys capturing 15s Silver and 7s Gold, there was much external reward for much internal effort. Some of the Brentwood Rugby Club’s members have also earned the honour of representing Canada in international competition. Ms Kelly Russell, Girls Coach, Rio Olympic Bronze medallist, and current Captain of Canada’s 15s team preparing for the World Cup in Ireland in August, recently travelled to New Zealand to play against the world’s best: New Zealand, defending champions England, and perennial powerhouse, Australia. Her try in a 45-5 win over the Wallabies can be seen here: http://www.rugbycanada.ca/leagues/newsletter.cfm Grade 12 William MP, Rogers ‘17 also represented Canada as a member of the U20 team which defeated the United States in a two game trial, 71-39. William and his teammates will play for the Junior World Rugby Trophy in Uruguay from August 30 – September 10, 2017. William also Co-Captained Canada’s U18 team in games against Georgia, Belgium, and the U.S in the European Championship where he scored 11 of his team’s 13 points against the Americans.  http://www.rugbycanada.ca/leagues/newsletter.cfm If you’re looking for more rugby this summer, Brentwood is offering a 7s youth camp for boys and girls ages 12-16 from July 9-14.
