Rowing coach and social studies teacher, Mark Wismer, has recently been awarded a prestigious coaching recognition award by Rowing Canada (RCA). Nominated by Chris Masson from the Ottawa Rowing Club, Mr. Wismer was presented his plaque by RCA President Brenda Liski at the RCA AGM in Vancouver on December 5th. We are very proud of his achievements and contributions to different rowing clubs across the country. An excerpt from the nomination letter underscores his coaching abilities: Mark’s skills and talents lie in tying together club, crew and individual goals to maximizing performance. It is evident by watching him interact with the athletes that he uses coaching as an avenue to develop confidence and positive qualities in each of his athletes. He does this by empowering them through education such as teaching athletes how to rig the boat to their size or emphasize a skill through multiple verbal and physical descriptions. He coaxes the best out of his athletes by encouraging them to take risks and push themselves to their limits. This also seamlessly permits them to buy into the program and generate an excellent training group and atmosphere.
