The first day of the Brentwood Regatta can be an exciting and nerve-wracking experience for athletes, coaches, and spectators alike. But when the weather is on your side, it can make for an even more memorable event. This was certainly the case yesterday, as the sun shone brightly and warmly, creating a picture-perfect setting for the rowing teams to take to the water.

The day began bright and early as some rowers took their opportunity of a beautiful sunrise practice on the water. The excitement in the air was palpable as athletes from all over arrived to compete in the event, each hoping to take home a victory and bring glory to their respective teams. The spectators, too, were out in full force, lining the shore and cheering on their favorites.

Out on Campbell Commons, the Entrepreneurship booths were in full swing and receiving lots of customers. “In the midst of intense studying for AP exams, it was really nice to stay out in the sun all day simply enjoying the amazing weather and scrumptious snacks from the Entre booths with friends”, says Sylvia E, Alex ‘23. Live musical entertainment was playing all afternoon from the Brentwood rock bands, jazz band, and R&B band. Ms Staples and her dance crew showcased three hip-hop dances which got the crowd going wild. There was also a surprise performance from past Head Prefect, Jacob Hart, and Arts Prefect, Robin Cole where they performed their original songs.

As the day progressed, more and more races took place, each one more exciting than the last. The weather remained perfect throughout, with the sun shining and a light breeze keeping everyone cool. The athletes gave it their all, pushing themselves to the limit, each one determined to come out on top.

“It was really exciting to see all the crews show up and to see everyone so hyped and excited to help and contribute in making sure the races went smoothly. It was a great day of racing for Brentwood crews and for everyone else. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s festivities”, Marin A, Alex ‘24 comments.

As the final race of the day came to a close, the crowds erupted into cheers and applause. Brentwood placed first in three races, the U19 Mens 2, U17 Women’s 8, and U19 Women’s Pair. We had four second-place results, three third-place finishes, three six-place wins, and three seventh-place finishes. The athletes had given it their all, and it was clear that they had left everything out of the water.

“Today was the best first day of Regatta I have ever experienced in 16 years!” enthuses Ms Warner, Houseparent. A huge thank you to Ms Manton, Mr Calder & Mr Ross and all of the staff and students who made for an unforgettable successful day. The perfect weather, enthusiastic crowds, and sheer determination of the athletes made for a day that will be remembered fondly for years to come.
