On September 30th 2008, a group of Brentwood students used OLPC laptops when they participated in a software design workshop at the University of Victoria. In response to student interest in the OLPC initiative, Brentwood's IT department recently purchased one of these laptops.
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) organization provides laptops to children in developing countries. Specifically its mission is defined as: "To create educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning."
By having one of these laptops on campus, students will have the opportunity to learn more about the OLPC project in a hands-on manner and witnessing the power of educational technology throughout the world.
