Brentwood Juniors Earn Hardwood Bronze

9 December 2010
The Brentwood Junior Boys’ basketball team began their season Dec. 3rd and 4th with a third place finish at the 12 team Victoria Tip-Off Tournament. The weekend began with a 53-35 win over Ladysmith Secondary which set up a second round game with Mount Douglas of Victoria. The lads avenged a loss at the hands of Mount Douglas in last year’s tournament by playing outstanding defense and coming away with a 63-37 victory.

This put our squad into the semi-final against a traditional powerhouse, Victoria’s Lambrick Park. Despite an incredible 40 point performance by Jordan C, Brentwood had two players foul out in the 4th quarter and eventually lost the game 59-58.  Although this was a heartbreaking loss, our boys demonstrated that when they play well, they can compete with some of the best teams on Vancouver Island.

The final game pitted us against another island power in Nanaimo’s Dover Bay Dolphins. This proved to be no contest as we sped out to an early lead and were able to get all of our bench players in the game for significant minutes before winning handily. Grade 9 forward Hayden F was the high scorer with 13 points.

On Tuesday, in their first league game of the year, the boys overcame a 2 point halftime deficit to defeat Cowichan 51 to 37. More court action will come your way after Christmas.
