On Saturday morning, Dave Calder (Class of 1996) and Scott Frandsen (Class of 1998) won the silver medal in the pairs competition at the Beijing Olympics. This was the first medal for Canada at the 2008 Olympic Games. Racing in the middle lane, Canada took off with the eventual gold medalists from Australia and never looked back. The defending Olympic champions from Australia were pushed by the Canadian pair the entire 2000 meters and won by less than two seconds. This was Dave's third Olympic Games and Scott's second. For both of them, it was their first taste of being on the medal podium. In a interview at the CBC headquarters, both athletes thanked their Brentwood high school coach, Tony Carr, for helping them achieve this goal. This medal sparked the Canadian team which eventually won an additional two bronze and a Gold medal in the Men's Eight.
